United in Diversity: SENarts Club Performance in Lithuania
Updated: Sep 24
A school stage can become much more than a place to perform. In Daugai, Lithuania, it became a meeting point for students from Spain, Turkey, and Lithuania, who came together through theatre, music, and shared creativity.
During the Erasmus+ mobility hosted at Alytaus r. Daugai Vlado Mirono Gimnazija, international students from Turkiye and Spain joined the Lithuanian SENarts Club students to record an English version of the original play “United in Diversity.” The performance was part of the project Inclusion of Special Education Students Through ART (SENarts), a project built around a simple and powerful idea: art can help every student take part, be seen, and connect with others.
A shared performance with a shared purpose
“United in Diversity” was more than a title. It described the whole experience.
Students from three countries worked together with Lithuanian SENarts Club students to bring the play to life in English. That choice mattered. Performing in English gave the group a shared language, even when it was not anyone’s everyday language. It also helped students practise communication in a real, creative setting.
Erasmus+ mobility gives students and educators the chance to learn through direct experience. For this group, Daugai became the place where intercultural learning happened through rehearsals, music, performance, and daily school life.
The United in Diversity: SENarts Club Performance in Lithuania reminds us that inclusion grows through shared action. A play, a song, a rehearsal, or a recorded scene can become a bridge between students who might otherwise never meet.
In Daugai, art did exactly what it does best. It brought people into the same room, gave them a common purpose, and helped them create something they could be proud of together!
