At Colegio San José en Fuensalida, we recently completed a special project that gave our students a unique opportunity to share their experiences and feelings. As part of the Erasmus+ initiative “Inclusion of Special Education Students Through Arts” (SENarts), we created a Student Diary Interview video. This project focused on capturing the honest voices of our students after a memorable visit we hosted at the end of September.

Bringing Student Voices to the Forefront

The Student Diary Interview video was designed to highlight the perspectives of all learners, especially those in special education. Students were asked to reflect on their thoughts and emotions about the visit, sharing what stood out to them and how they felt included throughout the activities. Their responses were heartfelt and sincere, providing a window into their personal experiences.

This diary-style format allowed students to practice communication and reflection skills in a natural way. It also gave them a platform to express themselves freely, which is essential for building confidence and a sense of belonging. By listening closely to their stories, the project showed how important it is to create spaces where every student feels heard.

How the Video Came Together

Teachers and students worked closely to bring this video to life. After the interviews, the team carefully edited the footage into a montage that flows smoothly and captures the essence of the students’ voices. The final video is not just a collection of answers but a meaningful narrative that celebrates inclusion and connection.

This approach helped students see the value of their own perspectives and encouraged empathy among their peers. It also served as a reminder to educators and families about the power of arts and communication in supporting special education students.

The Impact on Our School Community

The Student Diary Interview video has become a valuable tool for our school. It shows how inclusion can be fostered through creative projects that involve all learners. The video has been shared with teachers, parents, and project partners to highlight the success of the SENarts initiative.

Students who participated reported feeling proud and more connected to their classmates. Teachers noticed increased engagement and a stronger classroom community. This project demonstrated that when students are given the chance to express themselves, they contribute to a richer, more inclusive learning environment.

Moving Forward with Inclusion

At Colegio San José, we believe every student deserves a voice. This project reinforced our commitment to inclusion by showing how arts and dialogue can bring people together. We plan to continue using similar activities to support communication and reflection among all students.

By celebrating the voices of our learners, we build a school culture where everyone feels valued and included. We thank all the students and teachers who made this project possible and look forward to more opportunities to share and grow together.
